Things to take into consideration when choosing the right abrasive cutoff wheel

When choosing which abrasive cutoff wheel to cut your material with, there are a few things you need to take into consideration when choosing the right abrasive cutoff wheel.

A: Are you going to be cutting wet and or dry? The cutoff wheels for wet and dry units are going to be made differently. They are designed to run at different spindle speeds. B: What kind of outcome are you looking to achieve?  Are you looking to just cut your material and really don’t care what your material looks like because you have other operations that have to be done with your material and or are you looking for a metallurgical cut, lop and drop and or production cutting? Lastly C: What kind of material do you need to cut? Are you looking to cut carbon steel and or some form of alloy? Reason why this is important because each abrasive wheel of different grades will give you different outcomes. Because a wheel designed to cut carbon steel more than likely won’t cut inconel, due to material hardness. Rule of thumbs is harder the material is the softer the wheel needs to be and the softer the material is the harder needs to be.

In conclusion

These are just a couple of things to take things to take into consideration when choosing the correct abrasive cutoff wheel.
