This saw is a great abrasive chop saw for cutting general purpose steel.  You need to consider three things they are the follow:

1. The correct abrasive wheel.  With the correct abrasive cutoff wheel on this saw this saw can cut any general purpose material. With the wrong abrasive wheel on this saw the blade will load up, not break down properly and not cut properly (this process is trial and error).
2. The next thing to keep in mind is part placement.  Rule of thumb you want to keep the part front of center and bring it towards the operator. Center being the spindle arbor.
3. The last thing you will want to keep in mind is horse power.  It’s better to have more horse power than under powered because it will be easier to cut through your material.
